Do you know that there could be opportunities that are currently dying out of your life due to your acts of systematic or negligent starvation? Do you also realize there could be unhealthy things growing in your life due to your constant feeding – intentional or not?
Meet Betty Ogiel Rubanga, an award-winning HR professional, a personal friend, and graduate of our Public Speaking course. She is a John Maxwell trainer, a member of the Inspired Leaders Forum, and the author of “Against All Odds”.
Yesterday, she posted a seemingly simple but truthfully profound statement on the Inspired Leaders Forum: “WHAT YOU WATER WILL GROW.” On second thought, I decided to amplify it due to its innate profundity.
Consider the following scenarios:
- The child you spend more time with shall flourish more, holding other factors constant (such as what you spend that time doing). The one you deny ample access shall feel a loser at heart.
- The staff member you constantly offer opportunities for growth will get better. The one you relegate to the periphery shall get stunted (unless they embark on a deliberate personal development program of their own).
- The woman you “love well” shall thrive more and radiate peace on her face. The one you consistently ignore shall look malnourished regardless of what she eats.
- The business you often invest back into shall normally be better capitalized and quite progressive. The one that is only milked without being fed shall soon give way.
- The person you communicate with more regularly shall ordinarily reap an improved relationship. The one you remember only when you see them shall not experience the abundance of your goodwill.
- The aspect of your life that you feed shall grow – be it physical body, social life or financial area. The one you get no information about and give no ample attention to shall wither – be it your spiritual, mental, or emotional aspects.
- If a leader of an institution enjoys rumours from those he leads, gossip will be an internal policy. If he encourages truth and transparency, honesty will get the corner office.
We could go on and on. WHAT YOU WATER WILL GROW. So if you want to know what you’ve been watering, look at what’s growing. If you want to know what you’ve starved, look at what’s slowly but gradually dying.
Then make up your mind to be careful what you water today, this month, this year. Choose to:
🌈 Water your vision and gain a life of enviable clarity.
🌈 Water your purpose and live a fulfilled life.
🌈 Water your character and enjoy an inexhaustible peace of mind.
🌈 Water your key relationships and savour a strong social support network.
🌈 Water your mind and experience glut in the quality of your ideas and decisions.
🌈 Water your leadership and make a lasting, incomparable impact.
🌈 Water your spirit and be assured of both earthly blessings and eternal life.
In all these instances, ensure you’re using clean water for every sprinkle lest you cause more of dangerous contamination than healthy irrigation.
Assignment:
1. What will you water this month starting today?
2. How shall you do that (strategies)?
3. How shall you know you’ve done so (success indicators)?
Arise. Scale up. Water.
