Today, someone sent me this message: “The only people who deserve to be in your life are the ones who treat you with love, kindness, and respect.”

This is a good message. And I know that the key word there could be “in”. Someone being IN your life feels like we are talking about those that are given an open door to know us more, relate with us often, and interact with us regularly.

That said, though, I won’t read too much into it that way but will keep this a bit general. In that spirit, this was my response:

“…even those that don’t NEED to at times be in your life so that you not only be salt in their food and light in their darkness but that they may be the thorn that keeps you humble in your elevation.”

I hope this adds some perspective and offers you something to think about.

What WARMS The Heart?

🎯 Truly, those who treat us with love call forth the joy within to come out of us and be manifested.
🎯 Those who treat us with kindness make us believe more in humanity and call out the humanness in us too.
🎯 Those who treat us with respect activate the feelings of worthiness, importance and general decorum.

The ‘HOWEVER’ Of This:

Many times, though:

✍🏽 What matters MOST is not how you are treated but how you treat those who treat you in any way they want – good or bad.
✍🏽 What matters MOST is not how someone treats you but how you respond to their kind of treatment.
✍🏽 What matters most is what you do about what they do. That is, Event + Response = Outcome.

CONCLUSION:

So, surround yourself with those who treat you “right” because they really make life happier and your already hard life’s journey more bearable.

But don’t totally close the door to those that remind you of other unpleasant realities of life. Their once-in-a-while sting may be all you need to keep your feet on the ground even as you focus your eyes on the stars.

Don’t go out looking for them but when they come, reserve a small room for them!

What we may want to keep learning again and again is how not to be the ones who intentionally treat others with hatred, met out unkindness, and dispense disrespect. We are on a journey, right?

Nice day.

Live. Love. Lead.
