“Leadership often presents more thorns than rose flowers but to succeed as leaders demands that we progressively learn how to focus largely on the scented flowers and find the grace to wisely deal with the sharp thorns.”

Fodder for the Leader:
I have a habit of going back to my “past notebooks” once in a while and connect with my past note-downs! (I even still have my high school spiral notebooks from decades ago — and I love the things I find there!)

This morning as I checked through one of the notebooks from the recent past, I came across the statement above which I realized was noted down as I prepared a handover report at the end of my term of office somewhere!

Whatever was going through my mind at that time, only God and I know! But whatever it meant, we all truly know: those moments of truth when you agree with heaven and earth that to lead is to decisively prioritize.

Leadership as an act of priority:

Every day, as a leader, you have to prioritize whether to focus on:
🔹 Encouragers or accusers,
🔹 Problems or opportunities,
🔹 The joys of the day at the high table or the pains of the night as you think,
🔹 Blaming your detractors or finding innovative solutions,
🔹 Inspirers or demotivators, etc.

I pray for you today that indeed you and I will progressively learn how to focus largely on the scented flowers and find the grace to wisely deal with the sharp thorns.

In this reflective season, decide to keep enjoying your leadership rose flower regardless of the thorns that come with it. Be encouraged. Be inspired. Be resilient.
