Today morning, my friend Betty quoted America’s business philosopher Jim Rohn as saying,
“Managers help people to see themselves as they are. Leaders help people to see themselves better than they are.”
It made me think about three more thoughts that I then felt I could share with you here:
🔘 Managers often create balance and maintain status-quo; but true leaders initiate change and are more friendly to it than the former.
🔘 Managers do things right, that is, as they’re supposed to be done according to some set of guidelines; but true leaders do the right thing, not just things right.
🔘 Managers regularly focus on policies, procedures and manuals; leaders focus on people, their hearts and futures!
So, even when here at Inspired Leaders International we regularly say #YouWillManage, we are not using it in the sense of “Manager”. We’re referring to your ability to be unhindered by obstacles of life whether internal or external; aware that the possibilities of every determined individual on earth are almost endless.
The Great Duo:
Note that both managers and leaders are needed in an organization because managers will be very helpful in the meticulous day-to-day running of the institution in pursuit of its mission while leaders help the institution to keep going in the right direction, keep focused on the vision, maintain the big picture through it all, and build people that build the institution.
The Great Training:
That’s why we had to design a whole training program to help managers get leadership skills and leaders to learn managerial competencies called “Management Leadership Training (MLT) Program“.
The most recent team we took through this program were all the managers of Housing Finance Bank at the Head Office and all their 19 branches from around the country. It was a very engaging, participative, and eye-opening engagement.
So, while managers help people to see themselves as they are, leaders take a step higher to help people to see themselves better than they are, and then Inspired Leaders International comes in to help both managers and leaders excel beyond their current performance / productivity capacity.
